What Is Standing In The Way Of School Choice?

March 1 2014 – OFIS ED Barbara Bierman Speaks To The Manning Networking Conference Organized By The Manning Centre For Building Democracy –
During a panel on school choice and what stands in the way of it here in Ontario, Barb Bierman identifies 3 groups with responsibility – 2 of them are easy to guess, but the third might surprise…

“As Executive Director of Ontario’s largest, most diverse independent school association, I  regularly have conversations with parents, school administrators, politicians, bureaucrats and members of the media about school choice and why it is rejected in Ontario while it is embraced in 5 other provinces, 37 American states and more than half the countries in the western world. There are 3 groups that stand in the way of school choice getting traction in the province of Ontario.  While many in the audience may easily guess two of those groups, the third may come as a bit of a surprise.”
