How to Become an OFIS Member

Schools/Organizations/Agencies That Want To Apply For OFIS Membership Must:

1. Comply with and agree to all membership criteria
2. Complete membership application package annually by specified due dates

OFIS Membership Criteria:

1. Must agree with mission, vision and values of OFIS
2. Must operate in accordance with the Education Act of Ontario and/or the Childcare And Early Years Act
3. Must agree to maintain responsible educational & operational standards as defined in OFIS core values
4. Must be located in Ontario
5. Must submit annual membership application package, including fees & requested documentation copies BY SEPTEMBER 1 annually
6. Must agree to the membership level designation assigned by OFIS annually.

OFIS Membership Levels

There’s a membership level that’s right for every school with plenty of flexibility in making school improvements, opportunity for discounted OFIS resources and services and increased networking opportunities. Maintain a positive reputation and increase the integrity of your school with the help of OFIS’ standard setting leadership through designated membership levels. Annual membership fees for all membership levels are dependent on school size

Bronze Level Membership – $440.00 minimum – $5315.00 maximum
Schools that successfuly complete an annual Notice of Intention To Operate in Ontario (NOI) and/or possess a current Day Nursery License (DNL), submit proof of general liability insurance (including directors & officers/errors & omissions coverages) and complete an annual OFIS membership application and submit fees are eligible for the BRONZE Level
What Bronze Level Schools Get – basic web listing, regular OFIS e-news, OFIS membership rates for products, resources and services, basic telephone and email consultation access, access to online forum, use of OFIS brand for advertising and provincial representation of independent education matters.

Silver Level Membership – $385.00 minimum – $5075.00 maximum
Schools that meet all the standards for bronze level membership and demonstrates quality of control of instruction, assessment and evaluation of student achievement either through the use of regular standardized testing, annual school effectiveness framework and/or regular school report cards and parent conferencing and attend annual OFIS learning Days are eligible for the SILVER Level
What Silver Level Schools Get – basic web listing with active links, regular OFIS e-news, OFIS membership rates for products, resources and services, consultation access (telephone, email, staff), access to online forum, use of OFIS brand for advertising and provincial representation of independent education matters

Gold Level Membership – $330.00 minimum – $4535.00 maximum
Schools that meet all the standards for bronze and silver level membership and have current staff members who have completed the OFIS/YORK Independent School Principals’ Course (PSP Part I & II) are eligible for the GOLD Level
What Gold Level Schools Get – basic web listing that includes active links and a brief school summary, regular OFIS e-news, OFIS membership rates for products, resources and services, full consultation access (including site visits), access to website member’s only area, use of OFIS brand for advertising and provincial representation of independent education matters

Platinum Level Membership – $275.00 minimum – $4045.00 maximum
Schools that meet all the standards for bronze, silver & gold level membership and successfully complete a school management review every 5 years are eligible for the PLATINUM Level
What Platinum Level Schools Get – basic web listing that includes active links, brief school summary and OFIS parent referral service, regular OFIS e-news, OFIS membership rates for products, resources and services, full consultation access (including site visits and plan development), access to online forum, use of OFIS brand for advertising and provincial representation of independent education matters

Association Level Membership – $275.00 minimum – $4045.00 maximum
We know that associations and educational agencies want to provide greater support to their own member schools. Because OFIS is the largest, fastest-growing, most diverse independent school association in the province, partnerships with associations to expand services are mutually beneficial. Associations can apply for membership with each school being categorized by membership level but receive membership at association prices
Definition of Association – Two or more schools (a school has a BSID number or DNL, an on-site administrator, a defined program, and 5 or more compulsory school age children and/or meets the parameters of the Day Nursery Act), which are joined together over a written statement of purpose, agreed guidelines for conducting their association business, and a demonstrated process for membership (fee-based).
What Association Members Get – complete web listings, regular OFIS e-news, right to send delegates to OFIS Learning Conferences, ability to select a delegate to sit on the OFIS Board, access to online forum, access to OFIS rates on products, resources and services and receive greater provincial representation on independent education matters

School Development Level – $300.00 Flat Fee Annually
When boards and owners are organizing new independent schools, we want to provide support and resources to ensure greater success. Owners, boards or schools can apply for this level for up to 2 years while working through the details of opening a new school.
What Schools In Development Get – regular OFIS e-news, OFIS membership rates for products, resources and services, full consultation access (including site visits and plan development), access to online forum, use of OFIS brand for advertising and provincial representation of independent education matters

Individual Supporting Member – $10.00 Flat Fee Annually
Individuals that support the work of OFIS and wish to receive regular updates, participate in committees to the board and/or be eligible for appointment to the OFIS board as at-large members (based on expertise)

Individual Non-School Agency – $100.00 Flat Fee Annually
Non-school agencies that support the work of OFIS and independent schools in the province of Ontario and wish to receive regular updates, participate in committees to the board and/or be eligible for appointment to the OFIS board as at-large members (based on expertise)
