TOPIC - "MOE's School Effectiveness Framework" - Dave Bird, OFIS PD Consultant & Principal, Pinehurst School
The School Effectiveness Framework (SEF, K-12) is an Ontario Ministry of Education school self-assessment tool, grounded in research and professional learning, used to promote school improvement and student success. For K-12, it has been designed
to support the core priorities of the Ontario Ministry of Education, which include high levels of student achievement and reduced gaps in student achievement. With an implementation deadline of September 2012, the School Effectiveness Framework (K-12) will be
implemented in all publicly-funded elementary and secondary schools, and may ultimately be applied to Ontario private schools. In the meanwhile, this tool is a highly effective framework against which to assess your own school's effectiveness, and against which to design your own school's future improvement plan. Enjoy an introduction to this School Effectiveness Framework, and an explanation of how you can use this framework to further improve your own school's educational excellence.

TOPIC - "Numeracy & MOE's Newest Expectations" - Dave Bird, OFIS PD Consultant & Principal, Pinehurst School
With so much at stake for students who do not do well in mathematics, the Ontario Ministry of Education assembled a Mathematics Teaching and Learning Working Group in September 2010 to identify what it would take to bring greater depth and coherence to the K–12 mathematics program. Representing experts in mathematics pedagogy, curriculum and research, and including members from the ministry, district school boards, federations, professional associations and universities, the group adopted a
highly collaborative approach in order to surface current, research-based knowledge in mathematics teaching and learning, K–12. Following this research and consultation, this group developed 7 foundational principles to serve as a guide for planning and
implementing future improvements in mathematics teaching and learning.
Listen to an introductory explanation of these 7 foundational principles, and suggestions as to how you can refine your own school's mathematics teaching and learning to fully incorporate these newly-developed Ministry best practices.
